    New HSHPS Board of Directors Member: Darryl Brown, PhD, MPA,
    Drexel University Dornsife School of Public Health

    WASHINGTON, DC – The HSHPS Board of Directors has confirmed Dr. Darryl Brown as its new Vice President. Dr. Brown will be replacing Dr. Maria Garcia who stepped down from the position earlier this year.

    Darryl Brown, PhD, MPA, Assistant Teaching Professor and Director, Doctoral Programs in the Department of Health Management and Policy, will also continue as Drexel University Dornsife School of Public Health’s HSHPS Institutional Representative. Prior to the appointment of Vice President, Dr. Brown served as the Executive Secretary of HSHPS.

    Dr. Brown’s health care research experience is extensive, including work for the New Jersey Department of Health, Center for Health Statistics; University of Pennsylvania Medical School; and Temple University Health System. His research in patient‐reported outcomes and quality of care has been published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at APHA and AcademyHealth national meetings. Dr. Brown has conducted applied health economics research funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. He has also performed consulting work for Eli Lilly, Genentech, Inc. and Galderma Laboratories.

    Dr. Brown serves as a grant reviewer for the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, National Institutes of Health and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. He is an also an editorial peer reviewer for Health Equity and the Journal of Racial and Health Disparities.

    Dr. Brown’s degrees include a BS in Community Development from Pennsylvania State University, an MPA in Health Policy & Management from New York University Wagner School of Public Service; and a PhD in Health Services & Outcomes Research from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

    “I am both honored and humbled by the greater role to which I have been entrusted to serve with HSHSP President, Dr. Norma Perez, the HSHSP Executive Committee and our institutions to increase the presence of Latinos and other persons of color in the world of Hispanic health scholarship and practice,” said Dr. Brown.

    HSHPS looks forward to continuing its collaboration and work with Dr. Brown and Drexel University.

     HSHPS Board of Directors has confirmed the new Executive Committee and Members-At-Large. Norma A. Pérez, MD, DrPH of University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, School of Medicine will be replacing Maureen Lichtveld, MD, MPH of Tulane University, School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. Dr. Maureen Lichtveld will transition to Immediate Past President.
