HSHPS is a 501(c)3 non-profit member-based organization established in 1996 in response to the President’s Executive Order 12900, “Educational Excellence for Hispanic Americans” and HHS’s “Hispanic Agenda for Action: Improving Services to Hispanic Americans” initiative. By supplying essential academic and career development resources to students, faculty, and other health professionals, HSHPS addresses the mounting public health issues of providing quality and culturally competent healthcare to Hispanics living in the United States. Today, HSHPS is composed of schools of medicine, public health, nursing, pharmacy, and dentistry.

HSHPS has successfully trained over 900 health professionals by collaborating with its members, national partners like the National Hispanic Medical Association and Latino Medical Student Association and federal agencies like the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and Department of Veterans Affairs in various programs like Professional Development Workshop, Student Mentorship Program for Hispanic Health Research (sMPH2r), Hispanic Health Services Research Scholar, and Graduate Fellowship Training Program (GFTP). All of these programs have been critical to achieving our mission.
