HSHPS participated in the CDC
Annual Partnering Meeting. The Annual Partnering Meeting commenced in 1994
with just two partners, the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Association of
Schools of Public Health (ASPH)'s Public Health
Practice Coordinators. In 1995, the Association of Teachers of Preventive Medicine
(ATPM)'s Institutional Liaisons were added; and
in the third year, representatives from the Minority Health Professions
Foundation (MPHF) were included.
In 2002, the American Association of Medical
Colleges (AAMC) and the Hispanic Serving Health
Professions Schools (HSHPS) joined the group.
The original goal was to promote an
understanding in academic health institutions of
CDC's role in public health and preventive care
and of CDC's research priorities and potential
for extramural research funding.
In more recent years the goals have expanded to
include:
Providing a venue for participants to share
partnering experiences.
Highlight model collaborations
Exchange ideas for research and funding
opportunities and learn about the cooperative
agreement process
Development of a skilled and educated public
health workforce responsive to the diverse
American population.
HSHPS recently collaborated with the
Inter-University Program for Latino Research
(IUPLR) and the National Council of the Raza
(NCLR) to form a consortium of medical, public
health, social science scholars, and policy and
community advocates. A congressional briefing
was held to bring attention to the devastating
crisis of diabetes and obesity facing Hispanic
families
Through our collaboration committee, HSHPS
identifies new ways of collaboration at national
and international levels between educational
institutions and other groups with an interest
in, or impact on, Hispanic health.
All programs must be reviewed by the Education
Committee to ensure that we accomplish our
mission. If you would like to inquire about a
possible strategic alliance with HSHPS, please
