Drop-out rate
-
Between 1990 and 2000,
the Hispanic drop out rate went from 347,000
to 529,000 students. This is primarily due
to the sudden growth of the Hispanic
population in the United States in that age
bracket (16-19 years old) during the decade,
and not necessarily because more students
were dropping out of High School
-
Hispanic High School
dropouts earn an average of $6,500 a year
-
At the turn of the
century, 21% of Hispanics between the ages
of 16-19 dropped out of school
-
90% of Hispanic
immigrants ages 16-19 dropped out of High
School; however they only represent
one-out-of-three of the total number of
Hispanic drop-outs in 2000 (529,000 people)
-
The estimated drop out
rate for Hispanics 16-19 years old that were
educated in the United States is 15%
-
Latinas have a higher
risk of dropping out of school than Latinos.
In 2000, over 20% of Latinas dropouts
reported having had a child within the
previous 12 months
