HSHPS together with Health Professions and Nursing Education Coalition (HPNEC) sponsored a luncheon briefing on October 14 entitled: "Bolstering the Safety Net: Title VII and VIII Health Professions Trainees Caring for the Underserved". The meeting was a great opportunity to collaborate with over 55 participants including representatives from the House and Senate offices. |

HSHPS applauds the Senate for approving the proposal to restore funding to education programs, which are high priorities for the Hispanic community. Senators who introduced the proposal were Democratic Leader Harry Reid, Sen. Jeff Bingaman (NM), Sen. Edward Kennedy (MA), Sen. Chris Dodd (CT), Sen. Joseph Lieberman (CT), Sen. Patty Murray (WA), Sen. Hillary Clinton (NY) and Sen. Ken Salazar (CO). |

HPNEC CAPITOL HILL DAY rescheduled-date to be announced.
HSHPS is part of the Health Professions and Nursing Education Coalition (HPNEC) which aims to address health disparities, access to care, cultural competence, and diversity in medical education. During the HPNEC Capitol Hill Day, HPNEC member organizations will sponsor a participant to take part in visits with Members of Congress and staff to advocate increased funding for the Title VII and VIII health professions programs. The day consists of a breakfast briefing to update the participants on the status of the appropriations process, followed by visits throughout the day. Please join us, it is an opportunity to show the community's unified support for the health professions programs and highlight the range of disciplines that benefit from the programs. |
