    FACIAL PLASTIC AND RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGEON - The Department of Otolaryngology at the University of California, Davis, School of Medicine, located at the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, California, is seeking an academic full-time Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in the clinical series to participate in clinical, teaching and research programs.     The Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology at the University of California, Davis invites applications for a qualified Junior Specialist.

    A position is available to assist in laboratory duties and research in an epigenetics laboratory in the department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology at the UC Davis School of Medicine. Research will focus on epigenetic investigations of autism spectrum disorders and possible transgenerational inheritance of epigenetic marks such as DNA methylation. The primary duty of the applicant will be to organize and manage the lab animal colonies housed in the Tupper Hall TRACS facility MS1A. These tasks will include the daily monitoring of multiple genetic strains, weaning of rodents, cutting tails for DNA samples, isolation of DNA and protein from tissue, genotyping by quantitative and regular PCR and analysis of proteins by Western blot analysis. A major part of the job will therefore be trouble shooting of PCR assays, DNA isolation protocols and Western blot assays. The candidate must perform daily documentation of work in a laboratory notebook and demonstrate meticulous database management of rodent colonies. The applicant will be required to dissect rodents for tissue collection and sample processing as well as collect blood from live rodents. The candidate will participate in performing or assisting in experiments to generate data and perform data analysis, and will receive training by post‐doctoral fellows, senior researchers, and the principal investigator in order to participate in the design, collection, and interpretation of data by looking at the data gathered from the experiment that has produced the data and evaluate the information in order to consult with the PI and senior researchers. Additional duties include tasks such as organizing sample information into spreadsheets, analysis of data under supervision as well as placing and tracking orders of lab reagents. Prior experience in rodent handling, rodent colony maintenance, DNA isolation, genotyping by PCR and placing orders using the UCD buys system is required as well as training in institutional policies and procedures regarding animal care. The candidate will be expected to attend lab meetings and when appropriate, will present data to their laboratory peers and will contribute to scholarly articles by providing their research findings, data, and write-ups on the work performed and may participate in writing manuscript portions in relation to their research findings. The candidate will review scholarly literature to improve or learn about methods for the project that are needed for ongoing projects and will participate in local conferences and joint lab meetings. The candidate will also provide University/public service by providing support in the over maintenance of the shared equipment in the laboratory and mentor undergraduate students in work and data analysis.

    Basic Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Animal Sciences, Genetics, Biochemistry, or a related field with at least 2 years of prior laboratory experience.

    Preferred Qualifications: Coursework and direct work experience with rodents as well as course work and direct work experience with genetic and molecular biology techniques. Computer skills pertaining to scientific data entry and database management such as Microsoft Excel are preferred. The candidate should have experience in developing or adapting experimental tools and assays.     Junior Specialist appointees will be involved in interdisciplinary studies focusing on questions in Emergency Medicine for adult patients presenting to the Emergency Department with traumatic brain injury (TBI). Successful candidates will also participate in screening and enrollment of Emergency Department patients into approved research studies. The incumbents will work closely with the Principal Investigator and other investigators in examining the hypothesis if cerebral vascular hemodynamics are predictive of mortality, neurological outcome, and hemorrhage progression in patients with TBI’s. The incumbents will receive specific training in setting up the cerebral blood flow and continuous non-invasive arterial pressure monitoring equipment, learn how to navigate the electronic health record to collect information required for the analysis, and help design the data collection databases. They will download data from the data collection devices to be uploaded and analyzed on PCs. They will collect or assist with collecting lab samples required by the study. Working with the PI and other investigators, the incumbents will provide data summaries during the course of the study and be involved with writing up the results for presentation or publication. As part of this work, they will conduct literature searches, review existing journal articles and assist the investigators in writing new manuscripts and research proposals related to this work. They will participate in regular study meetings where progress of the work will be discussed, and relevant or new literature in the field of traumatic brain injury will be reviewed.     The Department of Emergency Medicine (EM) at the University of California Davis,Health is conducting a faculty search for EM physicians in either a clinician/educator or clinician/researcher track.     Responsibilities

    The Junior Specialist will work with rat models of intraventricular hemorrhage to assess spatial memory and will be responsible for administering immunohistochemistry (IHC) tests, staining/counting for BrdU/Doublecortin/NeuN in test subjects utilizing Microtome, immunohistochemistry supplies, water maze, Image-J, and AnyMaze. In addition, the candidate will conduct analyses using statistical analysis systems such as SPSS or GraphPad prism and will collect, organize, analyze and interpret the data. The Junior Specialist should have a strong interest in both clinical medicine and clinical neurosurgery research. A candidate who is planning to apply for medical school is preferred.

    Research and Professional Competence:

    The incumbent will be expected to produce contributions of a high academic caliber that will result in scientific papers published in peer-reviewed journals. The candidate will participate in weekly lab meetings. The candidate will also be required to attend to other talks given by faculty, both on and off campus throughout the year, which will discuss current and ongoing research projects.

    University and Public service:

    The Junior Specialist will be expected to provide mentorship to rotating undergraduate students.

    The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills in communication and writing, as well as the ability to work independently or in a team.

    Description/Education Background

    The incumbent must have a Bachelor's Degree with a major in Neurobiology, Physiology, and Behavior or a related field. In addition to a strong background in neurobiology and science, the incumbent will be expected to have experience working in a research laboratory, demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative, show critical thinking, be able to communicate ideas and work full-time.

    Preferred qualifications include previous experience in performing water maze testing, immunohistological staining, cryosectioning, and stereological analysis. Additional training on any specialized software will be provided.

    The Department of Neurological Surgery utilizes the RECRUIT system to administer the search processes. Applicants apply to the search listed in RECRUIT, completing the required sections,including an optional demographic survey, and attaching required application materials listed in the position description. In most cases, review of application materials will begin once the initial review date has passed.

    The Search Committee, with input from Department faculty and based upon position qualifications,will select the most qualified candidates who may first be interviewed via video or phone. A Shortlist Report will be submitted via RECRUIT to the Associate Vice Chancellor (Academic Personnel) for approval prior to inviting applicants for an interview. Inquiries will be made to individuals who appear to be professionally and academically qualified. Once the first interview is completed, the Search Committee will then select candidates to visit the campus for in-person interviews. Interviews will be arranged with committee members and other appropriate members of the Department (and any related departments). Members of the faculty department will be given an opportunity to participate in the process. The committee will request written comments from those interviewing the candidate.

    The Search Committee Chair or a member of the search Committee will ask each candidate the same questions. References will be called and also will be asked the same questions for each candidate. Final selection of the candidate will be recommended to the department faculty by consensus of the Search Committee based on the qualifications as set forth in the position description, training, accomplishments, results of interviews, letters of recommendation, and calls to references. After the Department faculty have voted on the final candidate, a Search Report will be submitted via RECRUIT to the Associate Vice Chancellor (Academic Personnel) for approval. The Department will be notified of approval of the Search Report and directed to begin the appointment process. The Department will be reminded to submit an electronic copy of a Tentative Offer Letter to Academic Personnel for approval, and an MOU for Appointments that Span Administrative Units (if appropriate).

    The Department of Neurological Surgery at the University of California, Davis is seeking applicants to fill a faculty position at the rank of the Assistant, Associate, or full Professor level in one of the following series: Health Sciences Clinical Professor, Professor of Clinical Neurological Surgery, Professor in-residence or Ladder Rank series - depending upon credentials. Successful candidates will have the foundation, preparation and vision to pursue a productive career in academic neurosurgery. This will entail clinical expertise, research, teaching, and university and public service. This person should be capable of leading a multidisciplinary neuro- oncology team in the UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center.

    Basic Qualifications: Must possess MD, MD-PhD, or equivalent degree, ABNS or AOA-NS board certified/eligible, previous teaching experience, maintain active neurosurgical clinical practice, conduct clinical and/or basic science research, candidates must possess the ability to work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment that fosters team science and multidisciplinary patient care. All candidates must have or be able to obtain a California medical license.

    Preferred Qualifications: Additional research and/or clinical fellowship training in neuro-oncology is highly desirable. A track record of productive scientific investigation evident in peer-reviewed publications and successful competition for extramural support of laboratory/translational/clinical research is highly valued.
