The HSHPS/CDC
Student Training Programs are a part of
a cooperative agreement between Hispanic-Serving
Health Professions Schools (HSHPS) and
the Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC).
The program began in
2002 and is designed “…to foster the
development of public health and
research skills of Hispanic medical and
public health students in order to
increase the number of students who
pursue careers in epidemiology,
preventive medicine, and public health
research.”
The programs provide
students with research/clinical experiences
that will enhance their knowledge of current
techniques in surveillance and interventions
directed at improving the health of Hispanic populations.
HSHPS offers three training programs:
the 10-week Student Internship Program, located at the CDC headquarters
or at a satellite office; the U.S.-Mexico Border Program;
and the 6-month Student Fellowship Program at CDC offices.
Selected students will be
featured in a HSHPS Press Release
distributed to over 200 national and
local newspapers.
