Research Project Area / Purpose:
The Mentored Career Award for Faculty at Minority Institutions (K01) is a three-to-five-year non-renewable career development award made to faculty at a minority institution. The candidates are faculty members at a minority institution, must have research experience (length of time may vary), and be committed to developing into independent biomedical investigators in research areas relevant to the mission of the NHLBI (i.e, cardiovascular, pulmonary, hematologic, or sleep disorders research). The award will enable suitable faculty members holding doctoral degrees, such as the Ph.D., M.D., D.O., D.V.M., or an equivalent degree, to undertake special study and supervised research under a mentor who is an accomplished investigator in the research area proposed and has experience in developing independent investigators. http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/rfa-files/RFA-HL-05-016.html
