HSHPS Seeks Program Coordinator
Salary: Mid's $40K.

Hispanic-Serving Health Professions Schools (HSHPS), a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, is the only national organization representing Hispanic-serving health professions schools. Today, HSHPS represents over 22 medical schools and 5 schools of public health nationwide as well as a broad network of researchers who address health issues among Hispanics.  The mission of HSHPS is to improve the health of Hispanics through academic development, research initiatives, and training through strong partnerships with member institutions, federal agencies, foundations, corporations and other non-profit organizations.

HSHPS is seeking a Program Coordinator to assume responsibility for coordinating the day-to-day administration of the HSHPS programs including logistics, recruiting and reporting requirements.  The Program Coordinator is responsible for managing the deliverables in close consultation with the Program Director and overseeing the development of on-site and off-site technical assistance in conjunction with that initiative.  The Program Coordinator provides oversight and direction for all daily activities included in the program administration.

The qualified applicant will possess experience in the public health field and must have experience coordinating complex, multi-faceted projects and the ability to work well independently.  Must have the ability to effectively manage staff and oversee consultants in a manner which is positive, strength-based and promotes productivity and high-quality work.  Applicant should possess knowledge of the role of the federal government and state public offices in public and medical health policy development.  Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as both a leader and a team member are essential. Post-Doctoral Research Associate, College of Medicine and College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, University of Florida
Salary: $40K plus benefits.

Start Date: August 15, 2009

A recently launched Health Disparities Program to Promote Culturally Sensitive Health Care and Address/Prevent Obesity, CVD, and Related Health Problems, which is being jointly sponsored by the College of Medicine, Office of Research, and College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Florida, has an available position for a post-doctoral research associate. This is a one-year position but, pending availability of funds, could be extended for a second year. The individual sought for this position will work as part of the Behavioral Medicine and Health Psychology Research Teams that are spearheading the Health Disparities Program, a major aspect of which is conducting community participatory translational research involving racial/ethnic minorities and individuals/families with low incomes. The primary roles of the post-doctoral research and program administration associate will be (a) implementing research and intervention plans for establishing and evaluating the impact of health promotion centers in community health centers, hospitals, and churches; (b) training community members to implement health research and intervention protocols; (c) training health care providers to engage in patient-defined culturally sensitive health care and to use tools to promote this care and promote patients’ health; (d) data management and data analyses; (e) participating in training and supervising of graduate and undergraduate student researchers; (f) preparing research manuscripts; and (g) grant writing. Applicants should have a doctoral degree in clinical psychology, counseling psychology, behavioral medicine, or public health; demonstrate strong potential for a career in community participatory and behavioral medicine/health psychology research; have a strong interest in health disparities and obesity research; and have experience in performing data analyses and writing journal articles.

The selected candidate will have his/her primary appointment with Brooklyn College’s Department of Health and Nutrition Sciences with potential for addition appointment with The City University of New York’s newly instituted doctoral program in public health (DPH). The Epidemiologist/Medical Officer will represent and work as an integral member of HHS/CDC CDC Global AIDS Program ( GAP) in the country of assignment. The main duties of the incumbent are to initiate, conduct, and coordinate complex HIV/AIDS program activities in collaboration with U. S. government partners, local government and non-governmental, multinational, and bilateral organizations. The incumbent may serve as Administrative Director of Operations (ADO), the principal management and administrative person for all CDC Global AIDS Program (GAP) program activities for either the country or remote field station location within the country of assignment. The incumbent acts with full authority in the absence of the Country Director on all matters involving non-scientific program operations and field activities. The incumbent is also responsible for providing program and operational support to the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).
Technical Public Health Advisor positions: These have responsibility for the administration, planning implementation and management of one or more comprehensive prevention program elements.
