How long is the HSHPS/OMH Fellowship Program?

The duration of the program depends on how much funding is available. Typically, the fellowship program lasts for 12-24 months.


What are some of the activities in which the fellows participate?

Fellows participate in a wide variety of activities. These activities include:

  • Conducting research on specific Hispanic health disparaties

  • Developing cultural competency curriculums
  • Participating with hospital and medical school committees

Are non-member institutions eligible to apply for grant support?

Currently, funding is only available to HSHPS member instiutions.


Does the applicant have to be nominated by his/her ‘home’ institution?

Yes, all applicants must be nominated by his/her home institution. The letter of nomination must be submitted by either the President or Dean.


Are individuals who have completed all coursework toward a doctoral degree in the biomedical sciences or public health eligible to apply?

Yes, graduates of a residency program or individuals who have completed all courses for a doctoral degree in biomedical sciences or public health by the start of the program are eligible to apply.
