HSHPS Recruiting & Retaining Hispanic Faculty Symposium Coming Soon!

• The symposium is an opportunity to bring together faculty from HSHPS member institutions, and communicate on issues of concern. The goal of this meeting is to create ways to identify, train and retain Hispanic faculty in research and higher education facilities; and to identify HSHPS’s role in this effort. The meeting will result in strategies to achieve the goal of the meeting, and setting clear agendas within the HSHPS programs to achieve these goals. Educational Scholarship for Students
DEADLINE: June 15, 2009

• Scholarship awards for $500 will be granted to four Hispanic undergraduate/graduate students (two students from member institutions and two from nonmember institutions) who are pursuing a degree in a health profession field and have demonstrated a financial need, desire to improve the health of Hispanics, and commitment to the Hispanic community for a period of at least two years after their studies. Students will be required to give HSHPS updates on their accomplishments twice a year.

Faculty Conference Awards and the Recruiting and Retaining Hispanic
Hispanic Faculty Symposium

• HSHPS will sponsor faculty from member institutions who seek to supplement their knowledge by attending a lecture, conference, or seminar related to the public health issues affecting the Hispanic population.
  Plans are underway for the HSHPS-hosted faculty symposium scheduled for the fall.
