“Diabetes and Obesity Among Hispanics”

The "Diabetes and Obesity Among Hispanics" briefing was held in Washington, DC. This was an opportunity for physicians and researchers, in the field of diabetes and obesity, to educate policy makers on the status of Hispanic health in the United States. Dr. Fernando Mendoza, Past-President of HSHPS, discussed “Obesity and Diabetes: An Epidemic Among Hispanics”. Other speakers included Dr. Israel Cuellar, Director of the Julian Samora Research Institute at Michigan State University and Carlos Ugarte, MSPH, Deputy Vice President of the Institute for Hispanic Health at the National Council of La Raza.  Dr. Cuellar spoke on “The Role of Community-Based Interventions: A Social Science Perspective”, while Mr. Ugarte discussed “National Response to Obesity and Diabetes”.
