Research Project Area / Purpose: The primary focus of this FOA is to use a systems biology approach to develop a comprehensive understanding of innate and early adaptive immune responses that contribute to protection from HIV/SIV exposure or infection, or facilitate viral acquisition. Projects should be designed to discover emergent properties and predict behavior of networks or interacting components in the early immune response to HIV/SIV exposure or infection.  Knowledge gained from these research efforts should ultimately seek to provide a foundation for the development of novel therapeutic or vaccine approaches against HIV-1.
